Amazing Preschool Dance Class Songs that I keep as must haves! As someone who has been teaching preschool dance for over ten years, I strongly believe that the music can make or break a class. You need music to engage them, you need music to get their wiggles out and lastly music to help those kiddos settle down on their way out the door! Below are a few of my favorites and some ideas on how to use them in class.
Amazing Preschool Dance Class Songs:
Bear Breath- Kira Wiley
I love to use this song as a mindful movement at the beginning or end of class. Students close their eyes and breathe. It gives dancers time to center themselves and the teacher 1 minute to take attendance or grab stickers!
Keepy Uppy- Bluey
I LOVE using this song! Even my students who haven’t seen the show, enjoy this song. I find it fun for balance skills, obstacle courses, and taking turns with locomotor movement.
Good Morning- Caroline and Danny
This song is fun when you have a new class of 2’s or 3’s. If they are nervous, it gives them a moment to think about the animals and be a little silly!
A Tisket A Tasket- Ella Fitzgerald
I love using this song to introduce hops or skips based on the level of the students. Dancers get into a hula hoop and practice hopping/skipping, when she says “I dropped it” they drop the hoop and spin around.
Stand Up, Sit Down- Patty Shukla
When I have some students who are not engaged or too many students who need to get their giggles out, we use this song.
Miss Mary Mack- Ella Jenkins
This song is great to clap or pat along too. I use the version that gets faster, and we practice trying to stay together.
Fly like A Butterfly- Bari Koral
This is a great song for the spring/summer. After you teach the kids the stretches, they can do it by themselves, and they love being able to hold themselves accountable.
