Sometimes dancers and teachers need a break from the regular class and its a great idea to introduce an activity still related to dance. Ballet bingo is a great class activity to play a couple times a year to see how your students are improving on terminology or just to have fun!
Ballet Bingo can be a great way to practice ballet terminology in an exciting way! I have seen various versions, from all pictures to intense ballet terminology used to keep dancers engaged and their minds active in the movement.
To make ballet bingo better than standard bingo, of course the dancers have to dance out each movement when it is on their card! When a dancer gets bingo you can also have them dance out their entire winning row as if it were a dance combination. This is also a way to test if they are remembering each term! Of course the little ones will need extra help reading the words, but adding in some pictures of familiar things you do in class can be very helpful.
I created a ballet bingo printable set for the kindergarten to elementary age group that features various symbols. The symbols can be used as different movements.
Some of the symbols featured are:
Star- Jump like a star
Heart- Draw a heart with your hands
Crown- Show your royal curtsy
Butterfly- Glide like a butterfly
Frog- Hop like a frog
Swan- Move very gracefully
these are just some examples of what you can have your students do for the symbols.
I have also created a blank ballet bingo set for older dancer to write in all of the terminology you are working on. Teachers can print as many as they need and have the option of filling in the squares themselves or have the students.
Once downloaded and printed these work great laminated to use over and over. I found scrap paper or dry erase markers work great for quick and easy clean up. If you would like a customized bingo card do not hesitate to reach out to me and I will be happy to create one. Check back for bingo cards in other dance styles!
