Incentives have been a must for me while teaching my elementary aged students. Giving them goals to achieve and rewarding students who exceed expectations in the classroom setting. Incentives in the dance studio can be quite different as students are paying for class and generally want to be there.
Getting creative with prizes and rewards keeps things exciting for kids! But being consistent in the routines and the way you reward students is also important. Kids who may not seem invested in material being awarded for their hard work means a lot to them.
I have two great resources for dance teachers to use. My first is the Dancer of the Day Certificate. I like to reward students who I notice working harder than usual, showing respect and kindness to peers, or generally being a leader in class. I truly thought kids would be sick of this, but when you HYPE it up and reward kids who do not think they are going to get it, it is a BIG DEAL. I believe this incentive is most beneficial in the classroom setting during school.
The second dance class incentive I recommend is the Dance Prize Punch Card. These are an excellent way for students to continuously work towards a specific goal and earn a prize. I also have an editable file to create your own dance prize punch card! This incentive is extremely beneficial for my littles in the dance studio!
Hope these can be helpful resources for you in the dance studio or classroom.
